Consumer Protection Policy in Building Competitive Advantages of Online Businesses
Abstract
The rapid growth of online businesses not only expands economic opportunities but also heightens the urgency of consumer protection in maintaining trust and stability within the digital market. In this context, consumer protection policies are no longer viewed solely as legal instruments but as strategic mechanisms that contribute to building competitive advantage for online businesses. This study aims to analyze the role of consumer protection policies in shaping competitive advantage through a Regulatory Analysis approach combined with Business-Oriented Policy Analysis and Policy Mapping. Using a qualitative research design, data are derived from consumer protection and digital business regulations, government policy documents, and relevant literature in business and management. Analysis is conducted through policy mapping to examine linkages between regulatory substance, business governance, consumer protection, and their implications for competitive advantage. Findings indicate that clear, consistent, and legally certain consumer protection policies enhance consumer trust, business reputation, and long-term business sustainability in the digital ecosystem. These results confirm that consumer protection policies function as strategic resources strengthening business governance and supporting sustainable competitive advantage. This study offers practical insights for policymakers.Published
